1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums that we have tested. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they utilize smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests of floors with no carpet They are also adept in cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to become stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.
It's still a good value for those whose office or home has a lot of bare flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad for a dry one in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has a powerful suction and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time to offer better cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a carpeted area which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it doesn't have the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a range of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.
It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature that we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that appears much like a Roomba model than the bulky units of the rivals. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful however, it's more expensive and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and identify obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the amount of dirt they tend to be.
For larger homes it's worth looking for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might imagine from its price. robot cleaner is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad that uses a reciprocating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It can also reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we've test. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
